DESCRIPTION:Intrinsically Disordered Proteins (IDPs) are a highly abundant
class of proteins that lack stable tertiary and/or secondary structures un
der physiological conditions. Numerous IDPs are associated with human dise
 ases\, including cancer\, cardiovascular disease\, amyloidoses\, neurodege
nerative diseases\, and diabetes. Overall\, intriguing interconnections am
ong intrinsic disorder\, cell signaling\, and human diseases suggest that
protein conformational diseases may result not only from protein misfoldin
g\, but also from misidentification\, missignaling\, and unnatural or nonn
ative folding.\nThe winter school will alternate lectures to practicals. D
uring lectures\, experts of the field will provide students an overview of
IDP biological mechanisms that develop pathogenic phenotypes. They will e
xplore the concepts of folding\, unfolding and misfolding\, highlighting t
heir differences and similarities. Practical exercises aim at transferring
to students basic skills for the study of IDPs and will revolve around th
e use of bioinformatic tools to solve complex problems.\n\nThe school incl
udes a half-day workshop on ELIXIR interoperability services and support f
 or the IDP Community.
