DESCRIPTION:Parasitic infections cause a major global burden in terms of hu
man health whilst also affecting livestock and agriculture. Understanding
their biology is essential to identify potential candidates for drug and v
accine development. To support the scientific community in this effort\, t
he UniProt knowledgebase (UniProtKB) provides a comprehensive\, high-quali
ty and freely accessible resource of protein sequence and functional infor
mation for a wide range of species including parasites and\, their hosts a
nd vectors. \n \n This webinar\, part of a [series covering various asp
 ects of UniProt](https://www.ebi.ac.uk/training/search-results?query=unipr
 ot&amp\;domain=ebiweb_training_events&amp\;page=1&amp\;facets=\,type:Webin
ar\,year:2022\,year:2021)\, will give you an overview on what type of func
tional information we provide and how to search and retrieve it. We will a
lso describe the curation process\, including how we annotate sequence pol
ymorphism\, the interaction between host and parasite proteins\, and how w
e highlight the potential biotechnological use of a protein. To illustrate
these various aspects\, we will use the parasite _P. falciparum_\, the ca
usative agent of malaria\, as an example.
