DESCRIPTION:Educators &amp\; Organizers:\nDaniel Wibberg (CAU)\, Nadim Rahm
an\, Maira Ihsan (ENA)\, Erik Hjerde (ELIXIR Norway)\, Isabel Cuesta de la
Plaza\, Sara Monzon Fernandez (ELIXIR Spain)\, Teresa Nogueira (ELIXIR Po
 rtugal)\n\nDate:\n10-11 November\n09:00-12:30 CET\n\nLocation:\nOnline\n\n
Contents:\nManaging pathogen data effectively requires a strong grasp of d
ata life cycles\, unified metadata schemas\, and reliable submission syste
ms. Spread across two half-day sessions\, this intensive workshop provides
a comprehensive walkthrough of Research Data Management (RDM) for non-hum
an pathogens\, bridging the gap between theoretical standards and hands-on
data deposition.\n\nDay 1: RDM Basics &amp\; ENA Standards\n\nThe Data Li
fe Cycle in Action: We kick off with an in-depth dive into the research da
ta life cycle\, providing essential context for managing scientific data f
rom creation to long-term archiving.\nPathogen Data RDM: A focused segment
looking specifically at the unique challenges\, requirements\, and best p
ractices involved in handling non-human pathogen datasets.\nENA Metadata F
rameworks: Experts from the European Nucleotide Archive (ENA) will deliver
a comprehensive overview of current metadata standards tailored for non-h
uman pathogens\, alongside an introduction to the Webin Submission System.
 \nDay 2: Hands-on Submission\, Templates &amp\; Metadata Validation\n\nWeb
in Submission Live Demo: Day two begins with a practical\, step-by-step de
monstration of how to navigate and use the ENA Webin Submission System.\nP
iloting a Draft Harmonised Metadata Template: Learn about the project’s
draft metadata template for non-human pathogen data\, developed to support
more consistent documentation and to inform future improvements to reposi
tory metadata structures. \nData Retrieval &amp\; Interactive Breakout Roo
ms: After a quick exercise on how to retrieve non-human pathogen data from
the ENA\, participants will split into four moderated breakout sessions.
In these small groups\, you will actively pilot\, validate and refine the
proposed draft metadata fields by mapping two real-world datasets into a s
hared Google Sheet.\nPlenary Review &amp\; Pilot Datasets: The workshop co
ncludes with a joint plenary discussion to consolidate your feedback\, ide
ntify key community challenges\, and review pilot datasets that have been
successfully deposited using these newly harmonized metadata schemas.\nLea
rning goals:\nBy the end of this workshop\, participants will be able to:\
n\nContextualize their data within the broader research data life cycle\,
specifically tailored to non-human pathogen research.\nEfficiently utilize
the ENA Webin Submission System for data deposition and know how to retri
eve specific non-human pathogen datasets.\nUnderstand and apply the latest
recommended metadata standards and templates to their own research workfl
ows.\nActively evaluate\, refine\, and harmonize metadata schemas to ensur
 e data submissions are truly FAIR (Findable\, Accessible\, Interoperable\,
and Reusable).\nPrerequisites:\nThis workshop is designed for researchers
\, data stewards\, and bioinformaticians working directly with non-human p
athogen datasets who want to standardize their data submission workflows.
A basic understanding of genomics or molecular biology data is recommended
. Familiarity with public repositories (like EBI/ENA) is helpful but not m
andatory. Participants will need a stable internet connection and a web br
owser for the interactive exercises.\n\nKeywords:\nResearch Data Managemen
