The Ajayi Crowther University in collaboration with RSS Nigeria Local Group is organising a talk for secondary school students on the sensitization and awareness of the importance of studying statistics and mathematics.

Mathematics and statistics are part of the keys driving force in today’s economic development. The future success of nations increasingly depends on their scientific and technological capabilities. It is not out of place to say that the process of critical thinking using mathematics, statistics and understanding their impacts are very important in today’s ever-changing world of complexities. Thus, basic knowledge of mathematics and statistics, are now among the generic skills for survival in the new economy. Unfortunately, there is under-representation of students in mathematics and statistics has persisted over the years.

Confirmed speakers for this talk include Dr Olaniyi M. Olayiwola (Head of Department, Department of Statistics, Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, Ogun State, Nigeria) and Dr O. A. Ajala (Head of Department, Pure and Applied Mathematics, Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomoso, Oyo State, Nigeria).

The talk will include discussions by Dr Olayiwola on the importance of studying statistics. Dr Ajala will talk about the importance of studying mathematics.
