This event is to present the methodology of the 2017 Mental Health of Children and Young People Survey, key findings and the next steps.

About the Event:

Last year, NHS Digital published official statistics on the prevalence of mental health of children and young people. This was the first major survey of the mental health of children and young people since 2004, and applied rigorous, detailed and consistent methods to assess for a range of disorders defined according to International Classification of Disease (ICD-10) diagnostic criteria.

This session, presented by the authors of the report, will describe the innovative survey design adopted to measure the rates of mental disorders in children aged 2-19 in England. It will discuss the sample design, questionnaire, fieldwork, clinical rating, weighting and analysis of the survey, and present the key findings from the survey. It will close with a discussion around the next steps in the important area of children’s mental health.
