DESCRIPTION:A free pre-conference tutorial organized by Young InfoLife in c
ollaboration with CIBB 2026\, the 21st International Conference on Computa
tional Intelligence Methods for Bioinformatics and Biostatistics.\n\nThe r
everse engineering of biological networks from omics data is one of the ce
ntral problems in systems biology and bioinformatics. In particular\, the
inference of gene regulatory networks (GRNs) from transcriptomic data invo
lves reconstructing plausible regulatory relationships between genes from
indirect measures of gene expression\, obtained using technologies such as
RNA-seq.\n\nThis problem is particularly relevant but also complex: trans
criptomic datasets are often noisy\, high-dimensional\, and characterised
by a number of genes far exceeding the number of available samples. The co
rrect interpretation of the results requires a combination of biological\,
statistical\, and computational expertise.\n\nThis tutorial guides partic
ipants through a complete reverse-engineering workflow\, from data prepara
tion to network evaluation\, with an introductory and practical approach a
ccessible also to those without prior experience in biological network inf
erence.\n\n**Topics covered:**\n\n- biological and computational backgroun
 d of gene regulatory networks\n- data inspection\, normalization\, transfo
 rmation\, gene filtering\, exploratory analysis\n- computational methods f
or regulatory network inference: correlation-based\, mutual information-ba
 sed\, and regression-based approaches\n- network evaluation: precision\, r
ecall\, AUROC\, AUPRC\, and the limitations of accuracy in sparse biologic
al networks\n- critical interpretation of inferred regulatory interactions
\n\n**Speakers:**\n\n- Dora Tortarolo\, Università degli Studi di Torino\
n- Grete Francesca Privitera\, Università degli Studi di Catania\n- Rober
to Pagliarini\, Università degli Studi di Udine\n\n**Materials:** all mat
erials required to follow the tutorial and reproduce the analysis are prov
 ided\, including slides\, example transcriptomic datasets\, scripts/notebo
oks for preprocessing and inference\, step-by-step instructions\, and refe
rence networks. Recordings of preparatory webinars are made available on t
he Young InfoLife YouTube channel.\n\nThe event is part of CIBB 2026\, tak
ing place at Sapienza University of Rome on September 2-4\, 2026.\n\nConfe
